Modred goes back to the start of his story: at New Atlantis, in the bay by New York City, is a young man that the superhumans have been talking about recently - a precognitive Inhuman named Ulysses. When she did, she remade her appearance in the image of her doppelganger so that people would trust her.

She conned her doppelganger into getting close, and then siphoned all the life energy from her, letting her emerge onto this new Earth at full strength. She only saw one other person during the long and arduous transition: a version of her from another universe, who called herself Power Princess. They didn't see her coming, and so she was able to get to the portal and leave, without a backward glance. Modred is surprised that she was able to accomplish the feat, and she explains that they underestimated her power, her skills, her drive. The group was primed to fight to their last breath, when she killed them all. and that the time needed to recharge the portal for even a second user was longer than the time they had. However, when it was done, they realised that only one person at a time could use the portal. Warrior Woman considers her tale: she and her comrades, the Squadron Sinister, were shocked by the news that the world was going to end, but decided to deal with the issue by combing their efforts into a portal, to take them to another universe. Modred gives his report: the first half of what he found is that her reign can be undone by someone specific, someone she killed getting from her world to this one. Modred reminds her that she "won" their loyalty by cheating, and using the magic of the Eye of Zot, the crystal he carries, the very crystal which Doctor Druid created a larger version of to gain dominion of Weirdworld. Her ally, Modred the Mystic, returns from a fact-finding mission, which, combined with her present thoughts, causes Warrior Woman to consider how she won the loyalty of the Myriad. She thinks it a fine alternative to the truth: the story of how she invaded this country with an army of alien mercenaries, of the civilians who had burst under tank treads and gunfire, and of the towering new construction already complete, hidden from the world. Zarda, the Warrior Woman, is assaying the view from her palace and mentally writing the first draft of the story she will make history remember: the story of a power princess who chose to become a queen, of the citizens who had burst for joy, and of the enchantment worked subsequently, when this old kingdom was transformed into a place of open wonder.
